Resizing a root partition on Linux VM

Well, I recently learned that one of my VMs had its root partition full. The following document on the root partition was resized on that VM. It’s not gonna be something exciting or anything special. However, I feel like I should document anyway, in case I forget on how to do that in the future, and partly due to I no longer work with these type of work as my daily job anymore....

Resizing a GPT Partition

One of my virtual machines runs out of disk space in the root (/) partition, and I want to remove the /home partition and using this free space to resize the root partition. Nowadays, for any serious systems, I’d use LVM with XFS on top. However, for this test VM, I have a virtual disk with 4 partitions without LVM. Managing partition on LVM is much easier than working the disk partition directly....
